Patrick Baker graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) from the ANU School of Music in 2012, where he studied under Christina Wilson and Alan Hicks. During the course of his studies, he performed in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Britten’s Albert Herring, and the world premiere of Sandra France’s opera From a Black Sky. Whilst at the school he also participated in master classes with Merlyn Quaife, Stephen Delaney, and Tessa Bremner amongst others, and performances with guest artists such as the Tallis Scholars and the Song Company.

Patrick has sung in a number of choirs including Coro, Kompactus Youth Choir, Cantillation, the ANU Chamber Choir, and the Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir. He has been a member of Luminescence Chamber Singers since their inception, and has sung and toured with the national youth choir Gondwana Chorale. He participated in the 2018 SongCo Lab with the Song Company. In 2015 he was awarded a choral scholarship with the Choir of St James’ in Sydney, becoming a full member in 2016 and joining them on their successful European tour of that year.

2017 saw Patrick complete his Master of Music Studies (Composition) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying under Carl Vine. As a composer, he has had works performed both nationally and internationally, including radio broadcasts on ArtSoundFM, Fine Music 102.5, and ABC Western Plains. He participated in the Gondwana Composer School from 2011 under some of Australia’s leading composers including Paul Stanhope, Stephen Leek, and Christopher Gordon, and assisted in its running in 2015. Patrick was one of the Sydney Children’s Choir Emerging Composers in 2015 and in 2017 was a composer for Moorambilla Voices. He is regularly commissioned by varied ensembles, and has had music performed by Woden Valley Youth Choir, Junior Gondwana, juice vocal ensemble, and the Song Company amongst others. He has also had music workshopped by members of Ensemble Offspring, and soprano Jane Sheldon.
